Our client was tasked to carry out stormwater works for the City of Brisbane, on a corner of a busy intersection in Morningside, Queensland. The immediate challenge they faced was site access, where the path to the location went through a park with heritage significance.
Balmoral Park, designated as a local heritage place in 2004, consists of cemetery grounds, recreational reserve and a memorial avenue of weeping figs.
The solution for a temporary roadway to the excavation site was the installation of DuraBase mats over the existing footpath. The interlocking composite mats provided 105mm of ground protection for the tracked excavator to safely travel over sensitive site with minimal ground disturbance. Risk of accidental ground rutting, damaged to the public footpath and impact to tree roots was minimised.
The advantage of hiring DuraBase mats is the ease of delivery and installation of a temporary road, maximising the clients time to focus on main scope of works, with the added peace of mind of trusted ground protection measures.
